African Dance & Drumming with Mama Africa

Elizabeth (Lizzy) Hammond-Apea aka Mama Africa is a Ghanaian; Actress, Dancer, Drummer, Singer and Choreographer. She has been performing since 1967. From 1973 to 1981, she worked professionally at the University of Ghana-Dance-Ensemble, Institute of African Studies, Lagon, Accra.

 From 1981 to 1994, she became a resident in Nigeria and worked at the University of Lagos, Center for Cultural Studies. In 1988 she formed her own dance company called TROPICANA PRODUCTIONS in Lagos.

From 1994 to 2003 Lizzy lived in Switzerland and formed a group called MAMA AFRICA CULTURAL HERITAGE. They performed and run workshops extensively. Her career objectives is to impart her artistic talent by teaching and performing as an ambassador of good will all over the world. At present she lives in Park Forest, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, USA.
